Injury sidelines world surfing champ Korzits

World surfing champion Lee Korzits will miss the Israeli and European championship because she had to undergo an undisclosed, non-sports-related medical procedure this week. Korzits, who has yet to qualify for the Olympic Games in London, will require an estimated three weeks to recover. Korzits competes in the RS:X category. Yehuda Maayan, chairman of Israel's surfing association, expressed concern she may not be fit for next month's World Championships in Spain. "We hope Lee will be okay," he told Haaretz yesterday. "What she needs now is mainly rest and to give her body time to recuperate, and we hope the treatment will help her return earlier than expected." (Rami Hipsh)

League set to restore limit on foreign players

The so-called "Russian rule" is set to make a comeback, limiting three foreign players per team on Premier League basketball courts next season. Officials told Haaretz they expect the league administration next month to repeal the rule instated this season, which required only one Israeli on the court per team at any time. They say most teams in the league, including Maccabi Tel Aviv, were adversely affected this season, prompting calls to change back to the old system. The main unresolved issue is the number of foreign players allowed to be kept on a roster for each game. (Arie Livnat)

K. Shmona bosses try to patch up differences

After a few days of tension between Kiryat Shmona owner Izzy Sheratzky and the coach of his soccer team, Ran Ben Shimon, the two reportedly met yesterday to patch up their differences, the Premier League club announced yesterday in a statement. Sheratzky reportedly reiterated in the meeting that he wants Ben Shimon to coach the team, which leads the Premier League, next season, and explained why he issued an ultimatum earlier this week that Ben Shimon had two weeks to sign a contract. The two also agreed that, because of the team's championship run, it was important to restore quiet to the club. (Moshe Harush)
