Sailing / Gidi Kliger finds a new Olympic partner
One week after going separate ways with Udi Gal, Gidi Kliger is setting out on a new partnership with Eran Sela, who will serve on his new team for sailing in the 470 class.
The two held their first practice together yesterday on the Haifa beach. Gur Steinberg, who is in charge of managing preparations for the 2012 Olympics, is expected to join them today to run a training camp ahead of next month's competition in Miami.
"Sela suits me best as far as experience and character are concerned," said Kliger yesterday. "The best chance to succeed lies with him."
In the last world championship, Sela competed as a team with Yogev Yosef, and the pair finished in 40th place. Gal and Kliger took the 11th spot in what turned out to be their final contest together. Another team that broke up recently is Yam Amir and Eyal Levin, who never managed to go as far as expected this past year.
The pre-Olympic preparations are likely to involve a realignment of 470 class teams.
