Ram and Mirnyi reach doubles final
By Rami Hipsh"Another great moment in my career," is how Andy Ram summed up reaching today's final of the end-of-season ATP World Tour Finals tournament in London yesterday. Ram and his doubles partner Max Mirnyi of Belarus defeated Frantisek Cermak of the Czech Republic and Michal Mertinak of Slovakia 6-4, 7-6(4), and will meet either Mahesh Bhupathi (India) and Mark Knowles (Bahamas) or the American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan. This will be the pair's fourth tournament final of the season, after they won at Miami but lost at Indian Wells and Montreal. It is also the last tournament that Ram and Mirnyi will play together, as the Belarussian has announced that he will play fewer tournaments next season in order to spend more time with his family. Ram, who acrimoniously broke up with his former doubles partner, Yoni Erlich, intends to partner with Michael Llodra of France in the future. "Enjoyed very much last year, really, playing with Max. Learned a lot from him on the court and off the court," Ram said yesterday.
