Rabkin in top gear as bowls contests begin
Preliminary games in the nine round-robin rounds began yesterday at the Netanya club in clashes between Israel's A and B men's and women's five-up squads. Jeff Rabkin, seeking his third Maccabiah singles crown was in great form to beat George Kaminsky 21-12, while Irit Grenchel (A-side) won 21-8 against Chaya Prager. In the women's trips, the A-side of Tami Kamzel, Naomi Fix and Tzila Gavish were on top form to win 29-7 against Prager, Edna Zomberg and Denny Galland, while Kamzel's trio with Miriam Pappenheimer added won a closer fours contest, 14-11 against Yael Bar-Ner, Zomberg, Galland and Natalie Goldsmith. In the pairs, Pappenheimer and Grenchel won 27-10 against Bar-Ner and Goldsmith. The B-side foursome of Colin Silberstein, Chaim Shefer, Deddi Hakak and Arie Ben-Dor had a convincing win against Raymond Sher, Alec Goldsmith, Boaz Marcus and Zvika Hadar, winning 18-9.
