Lawn Bowls / Road warriors clinch title for Ramat Gan

By Norman Spiro

The final of the annual National mixed trips was played off at the Ra'anana club, but it was the visiting threesome from Ramat Gan of Dror Zomberg, his wife Edna and Zvi Bekier who took the top honors from the host trio of Zvika Hadar, Ron Baum and Anne Kashi.

Ramat Gan's final win by 10 shots reflected more cohesive bowling by the visitors. Bekier at lead was consistently round the jack allowing Edna Zomberg to consolidate with supporting bowls, and finally Dror Zomberg at skip held the powerful Zvika Hadar at bay with excellent saving shots.

The game started off with good all-round bowling by both sides, and it was Ramat Gan with that extra touch who won the first four ends to lead 6-0.

With a four-count in the ninth end Ra'anana came closest to leveling with their opponents at 8-7, but then immediately lost two successive threes to trail 14-7.

At 14-9 Ra'anana held three critical shots, only for Dror Zomberg to drive dead on target into the head for a two-count and for five conversion shots.

Ramat Gan led 16-9, following through for their well-deserved 20-10 win. Both Hadar and Kashi had been in last year's winning team, Hadar himself having also won in 2006 and 2004.
