Lawn bowls / Ra'anana fends off Kiryat Ono to claim mixed triples title

Ra'anana denied Kiryat Ono a comeback attempt to claim the mixed triples crown of the annual five-day Pesach tournament commemorating Max Spitz in Ramat Gan.

While the hosts provided most of the 28 teams representing eight clubs, Ra'anana's trio of Israel Meushar, Beverley Polatinsky and Kobi Hadar advanced to the final to face Kiryat Ono's Ruthie Gilor, Micha Farkash and Moshe Ayoun.

Ra'anana played more cohesively to set up an early lead of 9-1 after five ends in the nine-end game. Kiryat Ono stepped up its resistance but its rally attempt proved too little, too late. Kiryat Ono could only close the gap to 9-5 after claiming three successive heads before Ra'anana closed out the game for the final result of 10-5.

The third slot went to the Ramat Hasharon trio of Yehuda Bar-On, Gina Eting and Shlomo Mordechai, which beat Ramat Gan's Asher Blut, Alfredo Liderman and Sarah Blut.

Max Spitz founded bowls in Israel with the establishment of the Ramat Gan club in 1953.
