Dozens of protesters in Sao Paulo demonstrated Thursday against President Shimon Peres' visit to Brazil and Israel's actions in Gaza.

"War criminal, go home" the protesters shouted at Peres as he arrived in the city to give speak at a conference of local industrialists. Some of demonstrators held signs equating Peres with Hitler; others waved Lebanese and Palestinian flags.

Earlier Thursday, Peres with the world-renowned Brazilian soccer player Ronaldo, and invited him to visit Israel for a friendly soccer match between Israeli and Palestinain children.

The famed soccer player, who formerly played for the Brazil's national soccer team and Spanish soccer team Real Madrid, previously visited the region for a soccer match organized by the Peres Center for Peace.

Ronaldo presented the president with a signed T-shirt of his current soccer team Corinthians, baring the player's number 9.

to worry about, with no history of deep involvement with the issue, people still took the time of day to come out an speak out. Should tell you what Israel's image is becoming, thanks to things like Cast Lead.

Dear Mr. Azbob, As a Brazilian and Israeli citizen I must tell you that Israel DOES want peace but not at the price of our existence. On the other hand, Hamas does NOT want peace and its latest message was to cancel the Independence day declared by Arafat in 1988. They do not want to live side by side with us, they want us out extinction.

I spent years hopping back and forth between Paraguay and various cities in Brasil (Rio, Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Curitiba, Foz de Iguacu, Cascabel, etc.) and anti-semitism was little more than a minor footnote. Furthermore, Brasil has what--150,000,000-plus citizens? Hard to see the relatively few who turned up as more than a fringe; and like the poor, the fringe we shall always have with us.

big Deal! A few dozen protesters. A rag tag lebanon flag carrying collection of theocrats, facists, misogonists and wayward Lefties in search of someone to dispise. Big Deal. As always, it was probably raining in Sao Paulo.

I remember when a friend returning from a failed Aliyah in the mid-1970s espoused the attitude that Peres acted like a peasant. I thought it a bit harsh. Now I see people comparing Peres to Hitler. This reminds me of how Likudniks portrayed Rabin dressed in SS Uniform. Whatever Mr. Peres is, he is not Hitler. While there are Israeli politicians I could describe as 'war criminals' Mr. Peres is not one. He is a man being shamed for the actions of others. Others that I feel confident he opposes in his heart. Who cares if he slurps his soup as so offended my friend.

There protesters are not your typical man-in-the-street Brazilians. These are communist-socialist trouble makers of the type that protest at the G8-type summits.

Is a small amount of protesters. I've been to Brazil many times, they have a small thriving Jewish community. Many in this predominantly Catholic country support Israel. Brazil can think for itself.

No one got shot or hurt. When the president of Iran arrives he will also face a trail of protests in his itinerary. Brazil will promptly rebuke the holocaust denialism, and stand for the two state solution as echoed by the US, EU, Russia etc. Brazil is against terror and history denialism, seeking a sort of new world order balanced mediation of the issue in a whole different sphere, a more psychological one, let's see and hope for the best. Let there be no mistake that the bonds that link Brazil and Israel are stronger than ever. Shalom!

Brazil is part of "the world" which certain Israelis speak about when "the world"gives them advice about the Palestinian "situation." It is not just the millions of Americans who formerly were friends of Israel, but millions more around "the world" who feel that Israel is their enemy. It has nothing to do with the "Jews," but to the policies of a country which obviously does not want peace, which continues to illegally settle on others' lands and which continues to illegally occupy. If the Israelis do not change their ways, and soon, the two-state solution will not be viable and the Israelis will get what they want. 3.5 million Arabs within "their" illegal borders. Then what?
