Venezuela's Jews turn to Chavez over state media's anti-Semitism
Verbal, written attacks in Venezuelan media include hints that Jews are damaging the country's economy, along the lines of the 'The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.'
By Shlomo PapirblatCOSTA RICA - The increasingly anti-Semitic commentary in Venezuela's state-sponsored media in recent days prompted the heads of the country's Jewish community to request an urgent meeting with President Hugo Chavez last week. The presidential palace responded that their request would be granted.
The verbal and written attacks have included hints that the Jews are damaging the country's economy and are following the notorious anti-Semitic fabrication "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion." It is likely related to the rising tensions ahead of the country's parliamentary elections, which are set for later this month.
"This anti-Semitism is troubling us all and it needs to cease immediately," said David Bittan Obadia, deputy chairman of the Jewish community of Venezuela Friday. "We are not saying this is the government policy; however, [the government] is capable of putting a stop to the phenomenon. It has the tools. We will be very direct and adamant in the things we will tell President Chavez."

Bittan Obadia said the attacks had come from the media, but the community's real concern was that the phenomenon would spread.
He said the president's staff had promised a meeting with Chavez in about 10 days.
A member of Caracas' Jewish community told Haaretz yesterday, "Chavez and his supporters will not give up power, irrespective of the election result, and many members of our community are concerned that if there are disturbances, we will be targeted. When there is anarchy, there are always people who use it to attack Jews."
She added, "When the mood intensifies, like during the current election campaign, there are politicians who immediately bring out the incitement against the Jews. Is this by order of the president? I don't know, but the president sees and hears everything in the government-controlled area. Many Jewish families in my area have left or are leaving."

According to best statistics, 20,900 Jews live in Venezuela. The simplest thing to do would be for them to emigrate to Israel, and Venezuela, like all other countries that made life too difficult for their Jewish populations, will implode economically. An excellent example is Hungary during the latter part of the 19th century and the first decade of the 20th. Hungary was ranked as a leading European economy. But after the expulsion of the Jews, it rapidly dwindled to being ranked as one of the worst.
It is time for jews of Venuzuela to leave the country. It will be a loss to the countries interest and we will witness a major Deterioration of the country in every angle as it started already a long time ago.
The writing is on the wall. Dictators love to scapegoat Jews to help maintain power. My advice, take whatever you can and run while you can.

This story doesn't tell us anything. There's no actual quotes, no examples of the alleged anti-Semitism. It's shoddy journalism. Give us some examples so we know what we're dealing with.

Its a well known fact, part of the daily life, in country that has the highest homicide rate on planet earth, far higher than Mexico. Express Kidnapping, is a daily affair. The drug cartels use Venezuelan ports to ship drugs to Europe and Mexico. Pres.Chavez will no doubt win the elections and remain president until he wishes. Chavez is a key figure in the anti-globalist Left, with which anti-Israel hysteria (which of course drifts easily into anything Jewish), along with anti-American hysteria, is part of the scripture. It's a movement that finds the darkest evil in anything American and Israeli, while simultaneously romanticizing or finding excuses for totalitarians Hamas, Iran, Hezbollah, and other Islamist extremist groups, not to mention various tin-pot dictators such as in Belorus, Syria and Cuba as long as they voice the required anti-American sentiments. The far Left was active trying to neutralize the UN sanctions against Saddam Hussein's Iraq, until of course the US got rid of him. chavez himself has distanced himself from anti-semitic attitudes, but clearly they are filtering into the population. Socialism and communism have nothing to do with the hatred of Jews, and it would be self-defeating for his government to descend into the kind of absurd racism that existed during Stalin's years.
