Ukraine academic: Israel imported 25,000 kids for their organs

Jews and Israel have become a major motif of the presidential election campaign in the Ukraine.

By Lily Galili Tags: Ukraine Israel organ harvesting Israel news anti-Semitism

Stories appearing on several Ukrainian Web sites claim Israel has brought around some 25,000 Ukrainian children into the country over the past two years in order to harvest their organs.

The claim, which was made by a Ukrainian philosophy professor and author at a pseudo-academic conference in Kiev five days ago, is the latest expression of a wave of anti-Semitism in the country. It comes a few months after a Swedish tabloid ran an article alleging that Israel Defense Forces soldiers have killed Palestinian civilians for their organs.

Jews, Israel and anti-Semitism have become a major motif of the presidential election campaign in Ukraine, with some figures making anti-Semitic statements and others condemning them. Some candidates, including a Jew and someone whose rivals claim is Jewish, blame a third rival - Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko - for bringing anti-Semitism into the race.

"Ukraine's political system is a parody of democracy," Russia's Chief Rabbi, Berel Lazar, said.

Vyacheslav Gudin told the estimated 300 attendees of the Kiev conference a detailed story about a Ukrainian man's fruitless search for 15 children who had been adopted in Israel. The children, Gudin said, had clearly been taken by Israeli medical centers, where they were used for "spare parts." Gudin said it was essential that all Ukrainians be made aware of the genocide Israel was perpetrating.

The conference, some of whose participants belong to a Slavic-rights movement, also featured two professors who presented a book blaming "the Zionists" for the Ukrainian famine of the 1930s as well as the country's current condition.

Many Ukrainian Web sites covered the speeches without putting them into context. In response to a request by the country's Jewish community Ukraine's police force is investigating ZUBR, one of the Web sites that reported the speeches.

Meanwhile, Ukrainians demonstrated outside the Israeli Embassy in Kiev on Tuesday to protest a letter signed by 26 Knesset members condemning what they described as anti-Semitic remarks by presidential candidate Sergey Ratushnyak. Protesters chanted "Ukraine isn't the Gaza Strip," indicating they consider the MKs to be trying to exert control over their country.

The letter, sent to Ukrainian leaders last month, articulated fear of a new "wave of anti-Semitism in the Ukraine that has come to a peak with the authorization of Ratushnyak, the current mayor of Uzhgorod, to run for president." In his mayoral campaign Ratushnyak blamed the Holocaust on the Jews, saying they stole German property, and warned of the same thing happening in Ukraine.

Although the protesters did not describe themselves as Ratushnyak supporters, photographs of the demonstration were posted on the candidate's Web site shortly after the protest.

Yeah, it's allright for you hypocrites to never reconize the Armenian genocide and even mock it as gross exaggerations though haven't been smeared as "rasicts" toward Armenians, and yet you guys called yourselves mad because some people in eastern euroupe said some "mean-spirit" things towards you. I have newsflash for you Jews who complain and demanding that Europe should ban free expression (I.e. Holocaust denial laws); you are NOT special, you are NOT a superior race.

Spreading hate where no more is needed, wishing death on a country because a ludicrous conspiracy fable, which no intelligent person would take as truth, gets some publicity. Why is there so much animosity between some Ukrainians and some Jews? It is a taboo subject, because it involves some very nasty actions on the part of some Jewish people, such as the flunkies who were used by the Polish nobility to rent out churches to the peasants of what was then a part of Poland, or the atheist Soviet Jews like Trotsky, or Stalin's henchman, Kaganovitch, who helped starve 6,000,000 Ukrainian kulaky during the Holodomor, or the 85% Jewish membership of the dreaded cheka. Time to quit irritating the wounds, let them dry and heal, grow up and learn to live like civilised entities.

The main article aside i find it ironic to the point of ridiculousness the amount of times that the term anti-semitic is thrown around in blind defence of the state of Israel. It seems that most people, Jews and Zionists alike, aren't very knowledgeable of the principles that the founders of Zionism envisioned for the fledgling state. If anyone is interested in learning a little history and some facts that may not fit their ideology, then i suggest this video. It changed my preconceived perceptions. http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=9024068972366598651

I'm jewish and live in Ukraine. There are many reasons why ukrainians dont like jews. A jew and close associate of Joseph Stalin, Lazar Kaganovich, played an important role in the ukrainian holodomor which led to death of 4 million ukrainians. Furthermore, today there is a huge number of jews in ukrainian parliament. In fact, I think Ukraine has the most jews in politics in whole Europe. Most of these jews are milionaires or bilinaires. You have to consider that you have to be a criminal in Ukraine to have millions.

"That`s why I think that what drives you is pure antisemitism(or philosemitism)." Actually you're right. I am a philosemite. I've travelled a lot in the Middle East, both Arab countries and Israel. I like the area. More to the point, because I've always mixed with Jews in the Uk and had Jewish friends, I feel a connection to the place. I also hate war and extremism and I see Israel drifting towards both. I like the Israel of Dana International, not the Israel of Lieberman. Now if that affection comes out usually as criticism, that's because I see far too many people on this site only here to defend Israel against all and any criticism. There are many nice things I could say about Israel but really it's more impportant to try to get the Israel-can-do-no-wrong crowd to see where their attitude is taking Israel. I don't really want to be in a position of I-told-you-so in 5 years' time. I;d far rather see Israel change now.

But increasingly I also see an intolerant, extremist and exclusive side of Israel, one that people like you, by your mindless repetition of right-wing Israeli attitudes support. People like you are leading Israel into an almost inevtable confrontation with the West, one that can only end badly for Israel. Think about that. You call this latest Ukrainian guff "grossly anti-semitic and evil". Naturally, it is undeniably an expression of baseless Jew-hatred. The evil presumably comes from the way it is designed to make people who don't know any Jews hate them. At the same time, you write: "some Ukranians are anti-semitic, but at least they`re not killing Gazans in their hundreds". Now it seems to me that, considering Israel is not actually killing Gazans in their hundreds, you writing this is also designed to make a casual reader believe that it is happening. You might be referring to past events, such as when Israel was forced to respond defensively after 8 years of incessssant rocket attacks and innumerous suicide bombings etc to try and calm the warfare aimed at them from Gaza, but you certainly give the impression that Israel kills civilians for fun. Which is pretty much the same libel as cometh out of the Ukraine, n'est-ce pas?

As a person who fights daily against zionism and its effects in Palestine, I am ojutraged by these 'scientists'. Blaming jews and other minorities for its own personal and social problem is an old habit of europeans, mainly in the east, but not only. I feel ashamed and escuse myself for belonging to such rotten society.

I have not even heard any news regarding ANY investigation into the Rabbis in New Jersey arrested last summer (July 2009) for organ trafficking from Israel in that massive corruption scandal by the Federal government. Although speculation does not help quell anti-Semetic accusations, does anyone find it odd that Rabbi Michael J. Broyde of Beth Din (religious judiciary) claimed "Jews don't like to donate organs", and yet no alarms have yet to be raised to find the source of the organ trade? Once again the REAL issues and crimes are swept under the rug. The statements coming from Sweden and Ukraine are rightly being viciously attacked, but who is viciously attacking the rabbis and investigating their source of organs and the social problems that exist that force people to sell their organs for money? Anti-semetism rears its ugly head once again, but our silence allows the anti-semites to speak up first with their nonsense.

and the Russian navy's access to it. It is squeaky bum time in Moscow, so they are smearing one side of the elections with the label of anti semitism (whatever that is) just in case they have to invade. Hence the Rabbi from Russia putting his four pennies worth in. Worryingly for Jews though, since the scandal in Romania, the arrests in New York, the news article in Sweden, and now this one. There seems to be a consistency in accusations and attacks against Israel, is it the (illegal) organ trading capital of the world, or not? Israeli politicians are being extremely reticent in condeming this, I would have thought they would be front and center screaming from the rooftops putting the Ukranian children on the telly to prove this is not true. I mean it isn't true is it?

You remind me the story about the student who studied for his biology exam about fleas. when he came to the exam he was asked about the elephant, which he knew nothing about. So he answered: the elephant is a very big animal, very often fleas settle on his skin. All the rest of his answer was about fleas, in detail. Every news item (subject is not important) provokes you to criticize Israel and remind us about the plight of the Palestinians. Get over it, pal!

Reminds the blood libels in past centuries in Europe. One villager told a story about the Jews using Christian cildrens' blood for the Passover matzes. Well, the story spread among the ignorant people who were willing to hear these kind of stories and resulted in many pogroms over the centuries. I see there is no difference in the 21st century:the internet spreads fantastic stories and causes ignorants like you to believe them. What will be the results?

This accusation is obviously rubbish. But the political overtones are strange. Yulia Tymoshenko is smeared, with no evidence. And we have this quote: "Ukraine's political system is a parody of democracy," Russia's Chief Rabbi, Berel Lazar, said. What does the chief rabbi of RUSSIA have to say about Ukraine? There seems to a subtext of anti-Ukranianism (and pro-Russianism), extending a bit beyond a very legitimate criticism of anti-Semites like Vyacheslav Gudin.

    • Michael

    • 11:17

So here we have a REAL case of anti-semitism, with old-fashioned scare stories firing up an East European mob. Meanwhile the Israeli psycho-right and it's fellow travellers are accusing anybody mildly critical of Israel's oppressive treatment of the Pals of being anti-semitic. And the latest farce is that the settlers are accusing Bibi's very temporary, very partial construction freeze of being anti-semitic. By hiding behind endless bogus accusations of anti-semitism the Israeli right and its fellow-travellers have reduced the power of the word to almost nothing. So when some real idiot like this Ukranian actually IS grossly anti-semitic and evil, somehow the world doesn't think it's that bad. As the Ukranian demonstrators implicitly point out some Ukranians are anti-semitic, but at least they're not killing Gazans in their hundreds.
