From where I stand I would judge the Report from the think tank to be accurate. Support for Israel is fast disolving. The same happened here with South Africa in the 1970s. It takes time for the public to get past the immense propoganda campaigns which sustain pariah states but it is wonderfully heartening that in the end the vast majority of people do see the reality for what it is. If Israel wants to fight delegitimization it must abandon the settlement project immediately. Settlements make a viable Palestinian state impossible. Even those singled out in CIF Watch have never called for Israel's destruction It's because of this kind of hyperbolic statement that Israel has lost so much credibility world-wide.

The report is capable of only providing a handful of locations of discontent (or rebelion). Most of the discontent is legitimiate. I believe that pro-Israely forces/lobbies can not tolerate even a little bit of opposition. Israely lobby in the US campuses and politics is a goliath and is massively funded and very effective. Most of the people will admit that but will not say it outright for fear of being labeled antisemite. Campus Watch and several other pro-Israely groups are watching for any dissent in the campuses. The saddest part is that the whole article is largely correct except for the central thrust. By what virtue does Israel claim legitimacy? The claim that an almighty gracious and stern Real Estate God gifted the land to Ashkenazim Jews is prima facie false. That Ashkenazim Jews have an historical claim on the land has long since been proven false, even to us dumb Goyim. More, Israel confirms it's own illegitimacy by using it's military dominance and control over every aspect of the lives of the Palestinians to coerce them into signing a paper that says that they accept the existence of Israel. By this act of coercion, Israel recognizes that only the Palestinians can convey legitimacy to the state of Israel. Which fact affirms the illegitimacy of Israel.

I write to you from Berkeley where storm clouds are gathering for the Jewish State. Israel can choose to delude itself into seeing the ever growing opposition to its policies as some sort of anti-semitic conspiracy. If Israel were to make peace with the Palestinians rather than treat them with extraordinary brutality; or if Israel were to offer a nuclear free Middle East rather than seek to be the only nuclear power in the region, or if Israel gave any impression at all that it cared about anything other than its own self-interests, the vast majority of Israel's critics would be happy to think of Israel with affection.

Israel is thriving, driving her detractors mad. They couldn't destroy the Jews, cannot defeat Israel militarily, so are tring to deligitimize Israel. This is a very serious threat, one which Israel must not take lightly.

Universities are fertile ground for anti-Israeli activity. It was always 'hip', but now it's become so bad that one cannot deliver a speech any more. The younger generation, which is shaping the leadership of those who will rule in 5-10 years, is highly anti-Israeli. At so many universities there is an Arab (oil country) funded "Middle East institute" that offers balanced history degrees of the Middle East (balanced as the Arab world sees it of course!). They churn out hundreds if not thousands of 'middle east professionals' (those who have studied the Arab viewpoint). Furthermore, all the professors and lecturers needed means that the university boards have no problem finding senior staff to back boycotts against Israel and Israeli professors. This is a disaster. Israel has done nothing while it's enemies have expanded and have taken over the bastons of freedom of thought and turned in to 'freedom of thought for them'. Israeli inaction has a much higher cost than action.

The Haaretz message boards attract delegitimizers in droves. Israel can do not right for them, and no murder of Jews elicits more than a tsk, tsk from them accompanied by another condemnation of Israel. For them there can be English, Canadians, Palastinians and so on but there can't be a Jewish people, and I think many of them get positive delight in saying that. That Europe, the Arab States and the Soviet Union did not treat the individual Jew with equality, they simply ignore. That Palastinains are seeking to be treated not as individuals but as a corporate entity, they embrace. That Jews in a Palastinian majority state would fare more poorly and by a wide margin than Arabs in an Israeli state, they ignore. Left and right should agree on this one.
