For the first time since the 1980s, there will be a fashion week in Tel Aviv dedicated to showcasing collections by local fashion designers to the international media. Tel Aviv Fashion Week will take place at the Tahana on November 21-23, with the event featuring collections by Sasson Kedem, Dorit Bar-Or, Yaniv Parsi, Alon Livne, Alembika, Galit Levi, Doreen Frankfurt, Tovaleh, Yosef, Mira Zwillinger and Gottex.

Ten young Israeli designers will also be presenting their designs for the first time and competing for the Choice Young Designer Award.

According to organizers Moti Reif and Ofir Lev, some 100 foreign fashion journalists and editors are expected to attend.

The event's timing was problematic for local designers, who generally do not show their summer collections until March. Designers participating will probably either show encapsulated versions of their new collections or feature samples of past collections.

In what may be a sign of reduced expectations, while early publicity for the event spoke of well-known international fashion buyers coming to place orders, Monday's announcement made no mention of this.
