Six killed in weekend car crashes
Six people were killed in traffic accidents this weekend in four separate incidents. Three people were killed in the north, two others near the Dead Sea and another near Ashdod.
Two motorists were killed and two others injured yesterday when two vehicles crashed in a head-on collision in the Jezreel Valley. The fatalities, both men in their 20s, hailed from the Jezreel Valley villages of Muqeible and Iksal respectively. One of the wounded men - age 30, also a resident of the Jezreel Valley - was transported by helicopter to Haifa's Rambam Medical Center in serious condition; the other was hospitalized at Haemek Hospital in Afula in moderate condition. Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Earlier yesterday, a 43-year-old woman from the Wadi Ara village of Mushreifa was killed in a collision on Route 66 near Megiddo Junction. Six others were lightly hurt in the accident.
Two people were killed Friday night in a frontal collision between a private vehicle and a bus near the Dead Sea. The two fatalities, both in their 20s and residents of southern Bedouin communities, were traveling along Route 31 from Arad to the Dead Sea when the driver of the private vehicle tried to overtake another car in a no-pass zone and struck an oncoming bus.
Magen David Adom paramedics and fire crews struggled to extricate the men from their car, but were ultimately forced to pronounce both of them dead. No bus passengers were hurt in the crash.
Earlier Friday, a 38-year-old motorcyclist was killed on Route 4 between Ashdod and Yavneh. Initial police investigations indicate that the man struck a car before crashing into a guardrail.
