Scouts to protest 'values' of Festigal
'The values derived from this year's Festigal, which stand in complete contradiction to our moral principles,' Hatzofim say in open letter criticizing popular children's musical production.
Boy and girl scouts have organized protests against the messages they say are being conveyed in this year's version of the popular children's musical production Festigal, "Festigal I - Game On."
Members of national scouting organization Hatzofim and the Israel Farmers' Federation youth movement are distributing open letters to protest "the values derived from this year's Festigal, which stand in complete contradiction to our moral principles."
Scouts will hold protests outside Sunday's Festigal performances in Haifa, including organized street games.
Israel Boy and Girl Scouts Federation officials said the implication that every child must own an expensive smartphone sends a "clear and problematic message."
The Festigal production company said its goal is to put on the best, most current, interesting and attractive show it can every year, and that it invests great effort into staying current with youth trends.
