MK Roman Bronfman's Democratic Choice faction will become a part of Meretz, with the lawmaker slated to take up the sixth spot on the party's Knesset list.

Democratic Choice MK Alexander Tsinker has been offered the unrealistic 13th place on the Meretz list and is expected to resign from his faction.

The move is contingent on the approval of Meretz's leadership, which is slated to meet today.

Bronfman and the chairman of the Meretz management, Haim Oron, confirmed yesterday that discussions on the incorporation of Democratic Choice into Meretz were underway.

"There is an ideological affinity and common desire to establish a future social-democratic alignment between the movements," Bronfman said.

Bronfman's expected incorporation into Meretz is likely to improve the party's status among the immigrant population. He is slated to head Meretz's immigrants' headquarters in the elections.

The move would create a new reality within the immigrant arena, as the Yisrael Beiteinu-National Union merger, coupled with Bronfman's joining with Meretz, in effect wipes two independent "immigrant parties" off the political map.

Yisrael B'Aliyah would remain as the only sectorial party among the immigrant community, with Natan Sharansky's party planning to exploit this as an electoral asset in the upcoming elections.
