The National Fraud Investigation unit of the Israel Police yesterday recommended that Petah Tikva Mayor Yitzhak Ohayon and Deputy Mayor Uriel Bosso be charged with bribery, fraud and breach of trust.

The two are suspected of receiving money and other favors from real estate developers and other businessmen in return for special treatment for their projects in the city.

In an investigation that began late last year, police say they have uncovered evidence that backs up suspicions that Ohayon began receiving illegal payments back in 2005 that included funding for his 2008 mayoral election campaign.

The recommendations and investigative materials have been submitted to the Central District Prosecutor's Office, which must decided whether to prosecute.

Ohayan's lawyers said in a statement that their client denies all allegations against him and is certain that in the end the case will be closed and the state will rule that his conduct was entirely on the level.
