Police identify Philippina victim, enlist public's help to find killer
Police announced yesterday the identity of a murder victim from the Philippines and identifying details of her suspected murderer, in the hope that the public will be able to help locate the killer.
The victim is Michelle Jamis, 30, who was killed in Haifa on November 4. The prime suspect is a 40-year-old man from China who goes by the name Lang and has previously worked in the center of the country.
Police have not determined a motive for the murder and don't know whether the murderer knew his victim. They lifted the gag order on the case yesterday, once they realized their investigation had hit a dead end, and are asking the public to bring them any information that could lead to the suspect.
A relative of Jamis' who has been living in Israel for many years said Jamis had spent the last few months working as a caretaker for an elderly woman in Haifa.
"We would meet once in a while," she said. "We didn't know of any problems she had. On the contrary, she was a happy girl who smiled readily and had a lot of fun. The entire community in the city was surprised to hear of her murder."
The relative said Jamis' body was flown to the Philippines several days ago.
