Pete Seeger officially joins anti-Israel boycott

There's no fool like an old fool. He could sing all of his song in Israel, how many could he sing in tha Arab world?

When Pete supports something against Israel, does he then supports those who want to destroy Israel? I think that Pete should clarify his position, so we know where he stands. His recent shifts shows poorly for the once very popular idealist. It seems like history now for the old man.

Pete Seeger was a big supporter of Israel. However, I am also very saddened with the way Israel is going. Some nationalistic trends are taking us in a direction that is detrimental (especially in the long-run). We have to stop vilify everyone that criticises Israel. It is neither good for our standing internationally, neither is it good for ourselves. Pete Seeger & many of his fellow folk singers have had a very pro-human approach in their music. He is a positive man. If he takes a stand, I do listen!

Jewish organizations and agencies like the judiciary must not only act in a fair and just manner they must be seen to be acting in a fair and just manner. Surely, the JNF's actions towards the Bedouins has done more to sully Israel's reputation in the rest of the world than the whole war on Gaza. Hamas presents as Israeli's clear and sworn enemy, while a few Bedouins with their tents and little else are seen as powerless and victimized. Don't blame Pete Seeger - blame the JNF for turning our friends against us.

Instead of supporting BDS, Seeger should support J Street and organizations like the New Israel Fund, which stand for the values which Israel should embrace.

I admire your work, music and politics, over the years, so I am perplexed to know why you have taken a stand against Israel. When you weigh the rockets and anti-semitism, and calls for Israel to be wiped off the face of the map and compare that to the work Israel has done from being the first to set up a medical center in Haiti to the many freedoms in Israel compared to all the other nations in their neighborhood, well, do the math. Criticizing Israel is good, it's healthy; so, by the way, is praise when deserved. To sign on to deride Israel, the good and the bad become all bad. I'm sad to see you do this because I admire, still admire, what you have done over the years, but many people will now unthinkingly say, "We'll if Pete Seeger has joined in, so will I."

I guess Israel is a safe place to protest, after all he cant go after all the dictatorships, they would probably hand him his head on a platter. Poor old fool.

As a lover of Pete for over 60 years, he has now reached my boycot list. I have been pro-peace for all my yeARS SO i DO NOT BOYCOT THE only democracy in the middle east!

Get a grip Adam...noone would mind a Jewish state that agreed to a fixed set of borders and ended its violent threats against its neighbors. THere is a context to the anti-Israel sentiment in the world and it has a lot to do with Israel's BEHAVIOR towards its neighbors, particularly the Palestinian living under occupation.

Pete Seeger, we need more people like you in the world. Maybe then it will change and get better. You are one of the very very few Americans who know right from wrong and have dedicated you life to make things better for those who suffer and need help. You are a true and model human being. I'm not surprised. he wrote an anti FDR song in early 1941, when the CPUSA was still anti war (and the nazi soviet pact was in effect). After June 1941, that went down the memory hole.

Seeger was a member of the Communist Party before WW II when Stalin and Hitler signed a peace treaty. When asked how he could be friends with the Nazis, Seeger said he was trying to prevent the WW II Really? He did not succeed.so well. Also Seeger showed his anti-antisemitism is the famous Newport Festival in 1965 when he insulted a Jewish musician called Bob Dylan.

Seeger was, many decades ago, part of the US' far left camp. Clearly he's learned nothing over his long life, as he still hues to discredited "progressive" values.

The Israelis that have tunnel vision don't seem to see that it's religious fanatics are being noticed. What sort of anti- is it when Former Chief Rabbi Yosef, leader of the Shaa Party, claims that non- Jews were created, like donkeys, to serve the Jews. The government remained silent on his comments. Arabs are always innocent victims,never responsible for anything they do.

Not a mention of the real problems in the Middle East,but this is the usual behaviour by people like Seeger,it does'nt matter that innocent civilians around the Middle Eastern countries are slaughtered on a daily basis,the problem here is,if he says something,there is nobody to say,well done and it is not fashionable to critisize other Middle eastern countries,only Israel.

Seeger is just part of a growing trend, for whatever reason he finally joined. The movement is growing and for Israel's sake I hope it grows fast. Like South Africa, the only thing which is going to save Israel from itself is international pressure. Let's hope there is still time. At this point the chances of a two state solution are pretty slim although nothing is impossible. Within years, if not months there will only be a one state solution and everyone knows that will be the end of a religiously defined State and possibly the end of a State called Israel. Thinking Israelis should be supporting BDS not taking offence.

Another friend and admirer of Israel who is apalled by Israel's behaviour. Pete Seeger has been a beacon for lovers of peace and freedom for more than half a century.

He didn't have much upstairs before. He should be a good boy and take his hippy medication.

that is the boycott will keep growing, until israel starts hurting. its just a question of how much hurt they can take. eventually they will fall in line for their own good. for the record i endorse and follow the boycott, for whatever its worth.

Pete Seeger has to know better. Boycots bring deeper suffering to the weak and the poor of the society. For the same Bedouin he wants to protect from the reforestry he will indirectly make life harder in many other ways. Speak out against the Israeli governement policies, protest, do something creative to bring out your anger, WRITE A FREEDOM SONG but do not deprive the regular Israeli citizen,may it be Jew or Arab. The ones whom anyways struggle on many levels, far beyond of what can be comprehended from far away comfort zones. Economic boycots are not the way you hurt the people you try to help and that counts for everywhere, not only here.

The World view of Israel has changing and now see it as the oppressor of the Palestinians, where as 10yrs ago all they saw were the terrorist attacks. Some movement toward peace is needed very soon or it will only get far worst.

1) I wonder if Seeger and the other "BDS" "artists" are also boycotting China, Russia and every other police state in the world. 2) Of course not. Instead, the boycotters focus on a pretty small market to use as self-promotion. Israeli Jews take offence very easily. Joining a boycott of Israel is all it takes. They should not take it porsonally that Seeger has done this. He should have done it long ago. He had to have his face rubbed in it before he would geek.
