Adalah, the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, called upon the prime minister, the attorney general and the justice minister this weekend to implement the Goldstone report's recommendations regarding law enforcement authorities' treatment of opponents of Operation Cast Lead in Gaza. The Goldstone report recommended the Israeli government refrain from limiting war opponents' freedom of expression, and called on Israel to establish an independent commission to investigate detention orders. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned violations of the 2006 cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah militants in Lebanon and urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint. In a report to the Security Council circulated Friday, Ban voiced concern about rockets fired from Lebanon into Israel, the discovery of an arms depot in southern Lebanon, and explosions and a fire in that area still under investigation. Israeli defense sources toured Chabad Houses and other Israeli tourist gathering points in the Indian state of Goa, amid terror warnings targeting Israelis, The Times of India reported yesterday. The newspaper said Indian police sources called the patrols routine. "They will obviously want to see the security arrangement here after what happened in Mumbai," the police superintendent said, referring to last year's terror attack. "Mumbai is only 500 kilometers away. And a lot of tourists from Israel visit Goa," he said. (Barak Ravid)

Turkey is ready to mediate a new round of peace talks between Israel and Syria, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told French news agency AFP on Friday. Renewed talks with Syria could relieve recent tensions between his country and Israel, he said. "As soon as the path to peace opens again I'm sure that relations between Turkey and Israel will return at the same good level," Davutoglu told AFP. (Haaretz Staff)

Police believe a 38-year-old man from Ramat Gan threatened to kill Sports and Culture Minister Limor Livnat last month. The man was indicted in the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court on Friday. According to the indictment, the man sent the minster two hate e-mails, one of which asked "how does it feel to get a bullet in between the eyes?" In the second e-mail, which was sent to her Knesset account, the man asked Livnat, "How does it feel to be covered in black cloth?" An initial psychiatric observation deemed the man was not of sound mind. (Ofra Edelman)

Hundreds of Israel Police officers raided dozens of convenience stores across the country over the weekend, and arrested 64 people suspected of selling drugs, paraphernalia and counterfeit music and clothing. The raids brought in 3,856 Hagigat capsules, 2,332 pipes, 543 bongs, 71 grams of Hashish, 54 counterfeit Viagra pills, dozens of counterfeit CDs, slot machines, laughing gas tanks and counterfeit clothing and shoes. Seven of the convenience stores were fined, while others were cited for selling alcohol to minors. Two stores were shuttered. (Tomer Zarchin)
