Man held on suspicion of killing his wife

A 36-year-old Migdal Ha'emek man was arrested Wednesday evening on suspicion of murdering his wife. The victim, Shelly Michaelov, 33, went to visit her husband, Michael, who was working at the time as a guard at a factory in the Ramat Gavriel industrial zone. She was accompanied by the couple's child and a family friend. Following the visit, the woman and the family friend were heading for their car when an argument broke out between the couple, with the man accusing his wife of having an affair with the family friend. The suspect then shot his wife, who died instantly. He subsequently told rescue workers that he had been attacked by the family friend and had shot his wife accidentally. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and remanded in custody last night. (Eli Ashkenazi)

Body of Israeli shot in Peru to arrive home

The body of Mordechai Nir of Rehovot, who was killed during an armed robbery in Peru on Tuesday, will arrive in Israel today. The Israeli embassy in Lima persuaded Peru's chief prosecutor not to perform an autopsy, although local law requires it. The other three Israelis wounded, whose condition is improving, will remain in hospital for a few more days. Peruvian police told the embassy they view the incident as serious, and will make every effort to apprehend the perpetrators. Peru's government fears the robbery will harm its image and deter tourists from visiting the country. (Yossi Melman)
