Murder suspect hangs self in jail cell
By Yuval AzoulayA man being held for allegedly murdering his wife committed suicide in prison yesterday.
This was the 12th jail suicide in Israel this year.
Hamara Temisgin, 34, from Netanya, used a sheet to hang himself from the ladder of his bunk bed. Guards at Sharon prison found him during a cell inspection yesterday afternoon.
On Tuesday, a Netanya court extended Temisgin's remand by six days, one day after he was arrested for allegedly murdering his 35-year-old wife in their Netanya home.
His wife, Dehainesh Orly Temisgin, was found with her throat slit in their apartment on Ben-Zvi Boulevard.
Temisgin denied the allegations.
Israel Prison Service officials are investigating the circumstances of Temisgin's death, and said the prisoner was not on suicide watch.
Recent high-profile prison suicides include entertainer Dudu Topaz, who hanged himself in his cell after a previous, unsuccessful suicide attempt. Assaf Goldring, suspected of murdering his 3-year-old daughter, killed himself by jumping headfirst off a wall, also after another failed suicide attempt.
