A 41-year-old woman was stabbed to death in her apartment on Sunday in Be'er Sheva. Her ex-husband, who is suspected of killing her, later jumped from a window in the fourth-floor apartment. He died a short while later from his injuries.

The woman, who has been identified as Ludmila Azrov, was found with stab wounds all over her body. She was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Her ex-husband, Zakai Khizgilov, was taken to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva in serious condition, but was soon pronounced dead in the hospital.

About four years ago, Khizgilov was sentenced to 20 months in prison after being convicted of domestic violence charges.

Neighbors said the couple had four children together, ranging in age from 6 to 22 years old.

"In the past, he was violent toward her," one neighbor said, referring to Azrov's former husband. "But he's actually been coming here a lot lately. He'd bring her money and gifts for the children. He'd also just sit with her sometimes."

"In the past, there were incidents of violence between the two of them," another neighbor, Haim Braha, recounted. "After these incidents, they got divorced and the ex-husband spent time in jail. Since then, the two have been on good terms.

"When I returned [home on Sunday], I saw an ambulance near the building. They asked me to help lift [the man's] body and then I heard a woman yelling from upstairs that there was an injured woman," he continued. "They called for another ambulance and then it became obvious that before the man had jumped, he had stabbed the woman."

Azrov had contacted the city's social welfare department in 2006 saying she was the victim of domestic violence. After one meeting with department staff, she reportedly decided to forgo their services, despite the entreaties of department staff.
