There are 752 workers and retired workers from the Israel Electric Corporation who use more than 25,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year - four times the national average.

The IEC has a limit on free electricity for workers - those who use more than 25,000 kwh a year must pay for the difference. This week MK Avraham Poraz (Shinui) tried to advance a bill to limit the amount of free electricity for IEC workers to twice the national average, but the Knesset stalled it.

IEC workers and retirees getting free electricity under wage agreements number 13,667 and half of them - 6,734 - use more than twice the national average. Poraz's bill would hit their pockets hard if it became law. IEC workers use 14,000 kwh a year on average - NIS 770 extra per worker per month before tax.

IEC workers are the highest paid in the public sector, earning an average NIS 16,200 a month, with senior managers geting NIS 45,000.
