Children enjoying the empty streets of Tel Aviv yesterday. Magen David Adom crews treated 1,725 people over the Yom Kippur holiday. An MDA spokesman said 91 people fainted during the fast, 19 of whom needed resuscitation; 94 women giving birth were taken to hospital and another gave birth at home, with the help of a MDA medic. Some 198 children were injured while riding bicycles, roller skates, skateboards, roller blades and scooters, and needed first aid. Some 200 children on average are injured every Yom Kippur riding bicycles on roads, while the driving of motorized vehicles is forbidden. In addition, 39 people were moderately injured in 29 traffic accidents before the holiday and during it. Fifteen ambulances were stoned in Afula, Kiryat Motzkin, Acre, Tel Aviv, Netanya, Jerusalem, Ashdod and Ashkelon yesterday, in one case resulting in a broken window. Apparently the stoning was not by ultra-Orthodox protesters, angry at those driving on the religious holiday.
