Man dies, woman hurt after falling into Netanya well
By Haaretz StaffA 35-year-old man was killed when he fell into a 20-meter-deep abandoned well in Netanya yesterday.
The man's companion, a 35-year-old woman, was also found at the bottom of the well. She was taken to hospital in Hadera in serious condition.
The two apparently had been hiking in the area, and entered the dark, abandoned structure housing the well.
It is not clear why they fell in.
The rescue team described the mission as complex. The woman was pulled out of the well with ropes.
Paramedics could not resuscitate the man, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
There have been several incidents involving abandoned wells in recent months. Two months ago, a 4-year-old girl fell into an 8-meter-deep well in a Palestinian village north of Jerusalem, and died in hospital.
The girl was rescued via a special device that lowered a diver into the well.
