A man was shot to death yesterday while sitting in a restaurant in Bat Yam. Eye witnesses said two men on a motorcycle stopped near the tables and approached the man, Avi David, and shot him at close range.

An ambulance crew attempted unsuccessfully to revive David, who was shot in the chest.

Police are investigating whether the murder of David, a known felon, has anything to do with the murder of Shai Dabul, who was shot to death in the center of the nearby city of Holon last week.

David was arrested in 2006 together with Avner Harari, Nir Dabah and Amran Cohen, for firing a LAW missile at underworld figure Asi Abutbul. The following year, David was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder and sentenced to 31 months in prison.

According to police, David resumed his criminal activities after his release from prison.

Also yesterday, the car of a Kiryat Gat resident known to police exploded while he was driving it. The driver, whose name was not given, was evacuated to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva where he remains in moderate condition.

Police suspect that a grenade was attached to the car and blown up by remote control in an attempt to kill the driver.

Meanwhile, in Be'er Sheva yesterday, a 12-year-old boy stabbed his 25-year-old neighbor after she began arguing with the boy's brother. She was taken to hospital where she was treated for slight injuries.
