J Street, Israelis run ad urging recognition of a Palestinian state
New York Times ad signed by Israel Prize laureates, former Knesset members, former diplomats and former defense officials, calls to establish Palestinian state on the basis of the 1967 borders.
By Ilan LiorAn advertisement signed by several prominent Israelis that appeared in the New York Times yesterday urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Barack Obama to work to create a Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 armistice lines.
The ad, which largely copied the text of an ad that appeared in Haaretz on Wednesday, was placed in the Times by the left-wing Jewish lobby J Street in advance of Netanyahu's arrival in the United States today.

The Israeli signatories are affiliated with a group that demonstrated in Tel Aviv a month ago in favor of recognizing a Palestinian state. They included Israel Prize laureates, former Knesset members, former diplomats and former defense officials.
The text of the New York Times ad read as follows: "We, the citizens of Israel, call on the public to support the recognition of a democratic Palestinian state as a condition for ending the conflict, and reaching agreed borders on the basis of the 1967 borders. Recognition of such a Palestinian state is vital for Israel's existence. It is the only way to guarantee the resolution of the conflict..."
The advertisement was also published in European newspapers.

and of course netenyahu will find any reason not to agree, as usual. were not expecting much anyway because were aware that the only way we'll get to the 1967 borders and even beyond is by another war like the 6th of October 1973, it starts with a catastrophe and ends with a victory.
War is always a bad idea... peaceful, non-violent resistance is always a good idea.
If the world is to believe that Israel is genuinely interested in 'peace' rather than continued occupation and ILLEGAL settlement in pursuit of a greater Israel we need to hear more Israelis standing up and advocating a just resolution that offers a viable two state solution rather than the pathetic Bantustan hinted to by Netanyahu and his cronies. Either two states now or a single state in the future with full citizenship rights for all including an Arab majority - the choice is yours but time is running out, the world can no longer tolerate the injustice of the occupation and continued oppression of the Palestinians.
Do we wonder what's up with that...or do we know?
