Haifa man charged with rape in third-floor window escape drama
Raphael Yohayeb, 40, of Haifa, was charged yesterday with aggravated sexual assault, injury and false imprisonment, according to the testimony of the victim, who allegedly jumped from a third-story window to escape.
An indictment issued in Haifa District Court describes how Yohayeb raped and sodomized a 23-year-old Tel Aviv woman in his apartment in the Hadar neighborhood of Haifa. The accused apparently met the woman by chance and invited her to his apartment. When she came in, he hit her in the head with a metal object, threatened to kill her and then raped her while beating her. Following the rape he refused to let her leave the apartment.
The next morning, at 6:30, the victim jumped out of a window of the third-floor flat, breaking several bones in the fall. According to the indictment, the accused brought the young woman back up to his apartment with the help of a neighbor and called Magen David Adom. She was rushed to Rambam Medical Center's intensive care ward, where she remained unconscious for nearly two weeks.
