Fund-raising group inadvertently reveals information about top-secret IDF units

An association that fund-raises for the Israel Defense Forces revealed sensitive information, Haaretz has learned. The Association for the Wellbeing of the Israeli Soldiers revealed the names of classified IDF units on its Web site, as part of a list of units that received donations. The units use the money to fund entertainment and sports activities. This is part of the "Adopt a combat fighter" campaign, which raises $100,000 a year for each participating unit. The information was removed following Haaretz's query. (Anshel Pfeffer)

Journalist David Bloch collapses, dies at 68

Journalist, publicist and radio host Daniel Bloch died unexpectedly Friday, after collapsing at the Israel Radio studios. He was 68. Over the course of his career, he was the political correspondent for Davar, eventually becoming the daily's editor-in-chief. He resigned a year before the newspaper was shuttered. Bloch also was a music critic for Israel Radio, and wrote a column for the Jerusalem Post. His mother, Dora Bloch, was murdered in an Entebbe hospital after the other passengers from the kidnapped Air France airliner were released. (Gili Izikovich)

Judge who convicted Haim Ramon for kissing female soldier appointed to District Court

Magistrate court judge Hayuta Kochan, who presided over the conviction of former minister Haim Ramon for forcibly kissing a female soldier, was appointed to the Tel Aviv District Court for the next year, in a joint decision by Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman and Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch. Kochan claims she had to resist media pressure in order to convict Ramon. She is the only judge from Ramon's trial to be promoted. Of the five new district court judges appointed in the past few weeks, she is also the most experienced in criminal trials. (Tomer Zarchin)
