Dutch pro-Palestinian socialite: Jewish lobby plays on Holocaust
Gretta Duisenberg: Whenever you have something against the Jewish people in Holland, they call you anti-Semitic.
By Cnaan Liphshiz Tags: Holocaust Israel news anti-Semitism"Holland's powerful Jewish lobby is playing on the country's sense of guilt over the Holocaust," a prominent Dutch activist said last week, triggering angry reactions and accusation of anti-Semitism from pro-Israel Dutch Jews.
Gretta Duisenberg, the widow of the first president of the European Central Bank and a friend of the Queen of the Netherlands, said in an interview for Islam Online that "the Jewish lobby in Holland, like in the United States, is very strong and powerful, and it is still playing on our guilt feelings although it is 63 years since the Holocaust."
Duisenberg, a leading pro-Palestinian activist and well-known member of Holland's high society, added that "whenever you have something against the Jewish people in Holland, they call you an anti-Semite."
"These are anti-Semitic remarks, based on the libel of the Protocols of Zion, that the Jews dominate the world," said Ronny Naftaniel, head of Holland's largest pro-Israel group and watchdog on anti-Semitism, the Center for Information and Documentation Israel (CIDI.)
Duisenberg's spokesperson, Paul Lamp, rejected this, telling Haaretz that in the interview Duisenberg also referred to "Zionist Jews and orthodox Christians who dominate our government and the government of the United States."
While this quote does not appear in the piece, the interview does contain a quote by Duisenberg saying that "Holland's right-wing government is Christian radical, and the radical people within the Jewish people have very strong feelings toward Israel, and they dominate our government."
Duisenberg once said she wants to collect six million signatures for a pro-Palestinian petition. In a 2005 television discussion, she said: "I hope the Jews realize they can't take over the south of Amsterdam the same way they took over the West Bank."
"She doesn't realize it, but with this kind of statements she doesn't only insult Jews, but is also severely damaging the Palestinian position in the Netherlands," Naftaniel said. "People will believe that to support the Palestinians you have to be anti-Semitic, which of course is not true."
This month Naftaniel's organization released data showing that in 2009, the number of anti-Semite incidents in Amsterdam doubled compared to 2008, when 14 anti-Semitic incidents were reported in the Dutch capital. Jews in Amsterdam feel increasingly "besieged" as they are exposed to a growing barrage of name-calling, hate mail, firecrackers in their mailboxes, graffiti and - occasionally - physical abuse, CIDI said.

thank you. i now know who the lady is. passing her time as activist and expressing her antijewish feelings.
Unlike the 50 million africans who were transported in slave ships to the Americas don't have a voice as powerful as the jewish people. Out of the 50 million only 15 million survived (35 million perished). The extermination of 6 million Jews and killing of 35 million Africans was based on racism. And we have to learn from these experiences to bring to an end racism of all kind.
Gretta Duisenberg is not married, and never married a Palestinian.
Israel is in deep trouble by its own extrapolation of the definition of AS. If the widely generalized perspective of an anti-semite as one who does not accept occupation, disproportionate force, racial discrimination, ethnic cleansing ( Jerusalem today?) , or generally disagrees with Israeli hawks then look no further than Israel where let's say just 30% of Israeli Jews do not agree with at least one of the things mentioned above. By the same extrapolation that % of Israeli Jews is Anti-semitic. Also resorting to the same extrapolated definition don't you think a significant % of the world population is anti-semitic? If it is then Israel needs to reconsider its "Semitic" policies since using this loose interpretation even some staunch friends of the jewish world would qualify just for disagreeing with Israeli policies. Israel needs to seriously stop intellectually arming its enemies and start thinking about what it lets its diplomats & Supporters vomit.
Jordan is not Palestine. Palestine was 90% Arab c. 1922. The state of Israel was not created until 1948, after Palestinians had been terrorized, massacred and driven out to make room for refugees from Europe and other places. What does the fact that Arabs have 22 countries have to do with anything? Ohioans are Americans. Americans have 50 states. So should Ohioans give up their state to, say, refugee Haitians because Americans have so many states? DUHH!
First of all as she has been filmed shouting "hamas , hamas Joden aan het gas" (jews to the gas(chamber)) she is NOT a lady. 2ndly she's mentally ill and well known for antisemitic rants, sort of like Mel Gibson except she needs no booze.
"whenever you have something against the Jewish people in Holland, they call you an anti-Semite." Well, yes, Gretta. That's right. Anyone who makes derogatory generalizations about entire ethnic groups without distinguishing between individuals IS A RACIST. And you have proven out of your own mouth that that is precisely what you are.
The Queen of Holland's grandmother complained that Jewish refugees from Germany were being housed in a camp too close to the Royal Palace. She had them moved.
She has been making antisemitic outbursts since years.
Gretta Duisenberg has to be respected for her acts. She's sticking her head head up and is being met with tons of insults, organised smear campaigns and so on. She's 100% honest and is really concerned about the way Israel deals with the future of the Middle East.
does their empathy for the palestinian people make them inherently evil in your eyes? you DO realize, i hope, that 4,947 dutch people are recognized as "righteous among nations" by israel, for their empathy towards jews during the holocaust? and hopefully you realize that number only represents those outstanding instances that have come to light, and that the vast majority will forever lie forgotten in the obscurity of that era. surely your view towards people who harbor an empathy for those suffering oppression and injustice isn't one that might compare with that of the nazis; who considered them an enemy and would have them tried and shot? do you consider the dutch to be your enemy because of their empathy for palestinians, appeldorn? you must forgive my curiousity, but your comments seem to imply something sinister about being pro-palestinian, and so i thought maybe you would like to elaborate.
in essence what you've done is re-word the comment i've quoted from positive terms to the negative terms. my views reflect NONE of the criteria you list for an anti-semite, yet i am called anti-semite on a regular basis in these talkbacks. it's clear to me that the ONLY criteria being used to label me as such are my views regarding israeli oppression of the palestinians and my criticism of policies that support it. so tell me zvi, does my critical view of america's close-eyed support of those same policies, despite its official stance against them, make a 20 year+ career member of the u.s. military an "anti-american"?
What is strange about the story is that Haaretz cares at all--just imagine if a few talkbackers here won the lottery or managed to marry well? We would be seeing stories starring some of the least literate posters and their all too important opinions. Duisenberg may be a 'socialite' but she is not important in any meaningful sense of the term. Throwing the term anti-semite at her is pointless--it clearly pleases her. The best revenge on a 'socialite' is to ignore her.
In 1879, the German journalist Wilhelm Marr founded a political party with a platform of hostility to Jews (Klug, 2004). Marr introduced the term antisemite to describe the basis of that hostility to Jews, who, he said, "work together to promote their own collective advantage at the expense of the nations in whose midst they dwell and on whom they prey" (this accusation is of course familiar from the many antisemitic Talkback posts that make the same accusation against Jews: but of course these Talkback posters, unlike Marr, deny that they are antisemites). The term antisemite is used to describe hatred and fear of Jews.
Greta is a very angry lady who should think more and think before she speaks. She is doing her just cause more harm than good. The current Dutch government is quite pro Israel for various reasons. I do not think the CIDI has anything to do with it, although they are trying very hard. Ronny Naftaniel of CIDI is hardly any more subtle than Greta Duisenberg. Read for example the story about "Erella Grassiani" on the website of "een ander joods geluid" (another jewish sound). CIDI under Ronny Naftaniel is clearly a very active lobby organization and always supporting Israel. Too much so for many Dutch Jews.
anti-semites like to justify their hate for Jews with glib statements. considering the awefull injustice done towards the Jews they have every right to haul out this fact and toss it in the face of the public.
Michael- Talk about being hypocritical. The American Southwest including California was stolen from Mexico. And with regard to indigenous people-have you ever visited an Indian resevation where the people live in third wold conditions while being owed countless billions by the US government who practiced genocide against these people. Want to help indigenous people? Start at home in the good old USA!
I think she means well. Do I think some of her views might be racist? However, such stereotypical type statements are made by Jews, Arabs, Americans, and people all over the world, let's face it. Especially, when they are simple people. Look at the board here and what some people say. I think what she meant when she said when you have something against the Jews, they say you are an anti-Semite, that means she is saying that when you level criticism against the Jewish nation, community, then you are automatically a racist, and they won't accept criticism. In that regard, she has a point, but even Jews have a hard time criticizing Israel or what not without being vilified. I mean Goldstone a South African Orthodox Jew was told he was a traitor by an American Jew who isn't Orthodox. At least, an Orthodox Jew follows his religion. I'm off topic. The point is the woman has some points that some in the Jewish community will do anything in their power to block any criticism
She is minimizing, or even trivializing the Holocaust, as well as ignoring all the catastrophic ant-semitic murders all over the world, especially Europe, in the 1000 years preceding it. THAT is anti-semitic.
for some background on Gretta.
It is criminally and tragically ironic that the Palestinians and their naive apologists who have disproportionally escalated a dispute over land and nationalism into an international, well financed murderous, decades long headline stealing terrorist spree who arrogantly accuse Jews of wicked intentions for mourning the slaughter of 2 out of three Jews in Europe, men, women and children? Simply equating the dispute over lost land ("Nakhba") with Holocaust (the murder of millions of people) is an inherently evil equation.
Look, in every country people have opinions. This is an older lady who has sympathy for Palestinians. I am sure there are even older Jewish ladies who are pro-Palestinians who might say things that are not politically correct. She is exaggerating. Jews don't have so much influence in Europe. I am referring to the kind of Jews who don't care about human rights when it comes to Palestinians because they are more concerned about national pride. In the US and Canada, however, they do have a lot of influence. No, they don't control the media or whatever, but they have influence. I mean Zuckerman owns US News, the Montreal Gazette is owned by Israel Asper's family and will be bought by Grafstein, Rahm Emanuel is in the White House, Dershowitz was able to get a Jewish professor who didn't agree with him and was pro-Palestinian, to not get tenure. Jews who are concerned about international law, human rights, civil rights have little say except for Chomsky.
..but she hasn't let the last 2010 years go? Yikes..someone should scratch into her family's war time history..she learned these rabid rantings somewhere..
Gretta was married to the late Wim Duienberg the Presidet of the European Bank. She always layed the Salon Communist, through he 1st to t the 2nd marriage. Few years ago her son was rrested n Thailns with a friend on charges of drug import. Her sO has ascapedin misterious ways from prison and landed back in Amsterdam. His friend served many years in Prison untill released few ears ago. One wondres how ddid her so escapes well, look who was his step-father Well this is Gretta for you and these are her morals... Anyhow everyone is getting sick of her in Holland even the media. Well nt he moslim mediaa s she erves the purpos.
Europeans, with a history of centuries of antisemitism, disproportionately feel free to vent their hostility to Israel, charge it with unspeakable crimes, ignore the published desires of Hamas & Hezbollah to murder Jews anywhere on the globe & assume that American kindship for Israel is merely the result of some dark secret Jewish plot. They attempt to debase the word antisemitism, pretending Jews invented the term when it is a European not a Jewish creation to describe Jew Hatred & first used by Jew haters to describe themselves. They seem to have an almost pathological need to & do spend more time critizing Israel than any other nation but are absent on Darfur, the oppression of women,non-muslims & gays in Muslim countries & the lack of civil rights anywhere in the Arab world. They have rebranded terrorists who blow up school buses & marketplaces as "militants",except when those same folks do it in Europe. And then they wonder why Jews feel their comments are grounded in centuries old bigotry.
? all Arabs are Semites. And not all Jews are Semites? Where do you get such stuff ? If you are interested in examining who qualifies as a Semite then the entire humanity would fall under this definition since all living humans can clam ascent to Shem of the Genesis. How does this help the discussion ? David James Vickory is a Toronto-based nut who holds the view that European Jews descended from Hazars who lived behind the Ural Mountains and thus have no connection to original Jews. I agree with your other paragraph on the origin of the term ?anti-Semitism?
The word semite means any ancient or modern peope from the Middle East. An adjective comes from the word Shem, one of Noah's sons. Now Dutch Jews are not directly from Israel, but if any records were still around(destruction by Nazis) than most Jewish people could trace their roots to the Middle East. In America we call Black people ,African Americans and a lot are from the Carribbean. They probably were kidnapped and brought to these islands as slaves. Therefore. we are of Semetic origins no matter where we come from!
"People will believe that to support the Palestinians you have to be anti-Semitic, which of course is not true." That's odd. I read here every day that all Palestinian supporters are either anti-semites or self-hating Jews. It's printed here every day, without fail. You mean it's not true? Or is it simply the argument changes for your convenience?
somebody knows her background ? I am just curious.
If this Duisenberg woman is blind, that's no fault of Israel.
Israel needs to be saved from herself and should be listening to your wise words. I just hope you are not turned on for being a self hater, because the Israeli right are zealots who will ravage anyone who criticises Israel. Duisenberg does not use her words well, to talk about Jews as if they are all the same is wrong, it's prejudice. Yet, you'll find Deshowitz making the same mistake in Ha'aretz today, exclaiming that he can't believe a Jew would write that report - as if all Jews should think the same.
It would seem that we Jews now control most of Europe. We are truly blessed, aren't we? :)
Once Gretta got lots of attention when her late husband was still alive. Not because of what she said, primarily because she was the wife of a very prominent European and because of how she said it. In Holland she is almost completely out of the picture these days. Most people, including those who profess to be critical of Israel, consider her to be a mental case and a rabid anti-semite. Nothing wrong with being critical of Israel or any other country for that matter. But please apply the same moral yardstick to all parties involved, unlike the present situation where an incredible high standard is used to judge Israel, an incredible low one to judge Palestinians and Arabs and a completely hypocritical one somewhere in between for ones own conduct. If I were a Palestinian I would be insulted by this. Gretta's continued negative obsession with Jews and Israelis defines her as an uncurable anti-semite. Please, ignore her. Don't bring her back to center stage by paying undue attention.
Seems like the two of them have something in common? Is this is such common knowledge, why is news? :)
European nations that either perpetrated the Holocaust (Germany, Austria, Italy, France) were de facto allies of the Nazis (e.g., Spain, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland), or benefited financially from the Holocaust (most of the rest), can stop calling on Israel to return to Arabs "every grain of sand" until they fully compensate Holocaust victims and descendants for "every grain of sand" - all lost property, art, land, bank accounts, synagogues, etc. To date, compensation has amounted to less than 6 cents on the dollar!! Fierce court fighting by EU nations over refusal to return Jewish art treasures and real estate. Brits refuse return of $2 billion stripped from refugee Jews ("enemy assets"). 38,000 synagogues methodically destroyed, only six (6) restored. Give us back ALL our stuff, and provide generous compensation for wrongful deaths, and you won't keep hearing about it, which is so upsetting to Dutch socialites. Or, EU can shut the hell up about what Jews must give "Palestinians".
"People will believe that to support the Palestinians you have to be anti-Semitic, which of course is not true." Ronny Naftaniel, CIDI To support the Palestinians you don't have to hate the Jews. In theory only. In the current reality pro-Palestinian people who aren't biased by hate for Jews or Israel, and who can at the same time by honest about Jews and Israel, are rare, to say the least.
Dear father You do not have to teach me the meaning of Intifada. During the first Intifada I myself frequented to visit the West bank refugee camps and was walking between the masked men with their "innocent" wooden weapons. Me, a naive Israeli leftist saw it as a quite childish expression of nationalism and longing for an independence. Since then a LOT of blood has flowed on both sides and you Intifadah got a so called "upgrade" with suicide bombers, rockets, kassamim, snipers, rampaging bulldozers you name it... all in order to kill as many Jews as possible. This Intifadah is not anymore an innocent expression of longing for... Amongst others you lost the support of the majority of the Israeli peace camp who would have rallied for a 2peoples-2 states solution. How can you expect today after everything that happened, we would think of Intifadah in its original (to my eyes legitimate) peaceful disobedience? Reality is far from this and you know it... do not play the innocent.
? all Arabs are Semites. And not all Jews are Semites? Where do you get such stuff ? If you are interested in examining who qualifies as a Semite then the entire humanity would fall under this definition since all living humans can clam ascend to Shem of the Genesis. It's news to read of such a sense. I spent my last visit to the Netherlands probing for such a sense, found little, and got an admission from a researcher at the Westerbork museum that my sense of the matter was correct. The Dutch are much quicker to bash Germany than to acknowledge their own role. And as for Jews in the Netherlands, "having something against the Jewish people in Holland," as Ms. Duisenberg terms it, is more likely to be antisemitism than not, since this is a rump community.
Fairy Land: Andre Rieu, in his concert "AR in Wonderland" plays "This Land is My Land" as his final number, saying making dreams a reality, where children can run and play, he shows the beautiful children of Israel, brown, blonde, brunettes, white. He is Dutch and this concert was in Kaatschuvel at Efteling amusement park. Andre, I am a member of your fan club and love all your concerts. Fairy Tales: Jews demonized: The Dutch aided Hitler a lot;all we have is the memory of Anne Frank and her diary. Does anybody know or remember the Holocaust or feel sorry for the victims in Holland. She may be referring to Geert Wilders; there are a lot of anti-islamists all over the world (including Russians) but I would never consider them friends of Jews and Israel. What did the Russian royalty ever do except create the fairy tale of the Jewish conspiracy to blame the Jews for all their problems.
What a total joke
I regret the issued quote. We in Holland have nothing against our Jewish inmates. They are an appreciated part of our society. Most opposers in Holland are, as myself, only opposed against Israeli settlements policy and want peace in the Mid East in the benifit of all. Once we loved your Peace now movement, chrushed by the terrible suicide bombings, and we want it back
"Gekke Gretta"(crazy Gretta)or black widow as she is called by most people in the Netherlands is realy nothing more than a 'social climber craving for attention. The woman has nothing intelligent to say, dresses like a lady but certainly isn't one. Wherever she comes she's laughed at, ignored or made fun of, except in this circle of anti semites, where one of the 'honourable' members is the ex PM of the Netherlands Mr.v.Agt. If this is the 'high society' of Holland, they havn't learned or changed since 40/45, so 'anti semite is the proper qualification for these people.
I hope Gerts Wilders becomes the next PM of Holland and expels Gretta. The Dutch will soon be taken over by the Moslems in Holland and Gretta better learn her role as a women under Islam. Gretta brings shame to Holland-as she bows to those who enriched her husbands pockets.
'It is simply a fact', without the Holocaust Israel would not exist, or at the very least, not have been established in the throes of destruction. It was the conditions and circumstances surrounding her inception, one of sheer desperation, that set the tone; Anti-semitism has long lasting effects. Nations such as Canada have long dealt with their indigenous people who have far more valid claims than those of the Palestinians, yet I hear no shouts of apartheid heading toward the great white north. Canada and such have set the bar very, very low, yet only Israel is highlighted. What did I say about Anti-semitism and long lasting effects? It scews ones sense of fairness totally.
"Palestinians are Arabs. Arabs have 22 states. Palestinian Arabs are 80% of Jordan`s population, and until 1922 Transjordan WAS Palestine..DUHH--Isn`t their logical homeland Jordan?" So you reckon because Americans have 50 states, they can afford to lose one a previous owner. How about California to the Mexicans? Or Alaska ot the Russuians? Or we'll take back New Hampshire if you like? Also, all Arabs in all countries are basically different races. The Egyptians are totally different to the Iraqis for instance, because in both cases they;re ethnically indigenous with a few Arab immigrants on top who imposed their language and culture. The Pals' logical homeland is exactly where they are and wheer their families have been for hundreds of years - as you would say DUUH! Jews' logical homeland is where their families have been for hundreds of years, but if they want to go back to Israel, fine, as long as they don't oppress the mainly non-Jewish indigenous population
ow please, she is raised up anti-semitic her father was a high police officer during the german occupation of holland in WOII. Has been the maistress of some hezbolla people and so on. Even in Holland people start getting sick of this woman and her anti semtic club
and take responsibility. Nobody buys the "it was them not us" routine. Dews and Muslims are responsible for the mess. Not one more than the other. Stop behaving like a child. "He hit me first". It just doesn't cut it. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. YOU WANT PEACE? MAKE PEACE.
Palestinians are Arabs. Arabs have 22 states. Palestinian Arabs are 80% of Jordan's population, and until 1922 Transjordan WAS Palestine..DUHH--Isn't their logical homeland Jordan? Jews have but ONE national homeland: the State of Israel..
Theodor Herzl (1860-1904), the founder of modern Zionism, recognized that anti-Semitism would further his cause, the creation of a separate state for Jews. To solve the Jewish Question, he maintained ?we must, above all, make it an international political issue.? Herzl wrote that Zionism offered the world a welcome ?final solution of the Jewish question.? In his ?Diaries?, page 19, Herzl stated ?Anti-Semites will become our surest friends, anti-Semitic countries our allies.? Zionist reliance on Anti-Semitism to further their goals continues to this day. Studies of immigration records reflect increased immigration to the Zionist state during times of increased anti-Semitism. Without a continued inflow of Jewish immigrants to the state of "Israel", it is estimated that within a decade the Jewish population of the Zionist state will become the minority.
As I recall, and don't forget I am over 80, the Dutch Royal family spent WW2 in the UK and Canada, safely out of Germany's hands during the occupation of the Netherlands. Meahile, the Dutch had the unenviable record of sending a larger percentage of its Jewis citizens to death camps than any other country save Poland (which sent 90 per cent of its Polish Jewish citizens to their deaths.)
Sure mother, you heard nothing about what people say on Mrs. Duisenberg and how they agree to her opinion while you were on your shopping trip. The intelligencia and alike can't be found in places like Mc Donald and similar shoping centers.
TRUE WHAT YOU POST MOTHER.
The meaning of Intifada is "UPRISING" and was initiated by the people of the occupied territories both in Gaza and the West Bank, incl. Jerusalem. The intifada, which was a people's uprising against Israel's army, was in the first line movement of civil disobedience against the occupier, using methods like closing shops once a week, peaceful demonstations, etc. The intifada was met by the Israeli occupation forces, IDF and police, with a brutal attacks on everything that was moving, including the use of toxin gas bombs and rubber pulits that led to many deaths and wounded civilians. The later stage of the intifada became, as a reaction to the brutality of the Israeli side more fierceful and people used stones to rebell the attacks by the IDF. Blowing up busses was never a part of the people's actions on the streets. It followed by armed forces that led to the creation of underground movements, like Hamas, Jihad Islami and others.
How much for Darfur etc etc? Obviously the UN also escapes your attention. More anti Israel resolutions than the rest of the world combined. Pals with 1.5 billion Moslems, large Moslem minorities in the EU & USA and oil behind them have no power or representation?? Right ? They need to get serious about negotiations & come clean about colonising Israel with millions of Arabs as their "winning card".Till then you can sit back and read what they really mean in Arabic not the platitudes in English.A topic avoided religiously by the intelligencia.
Obviously the power of Pro-Israel Jews is disproportionate...thats not anti-semitic its fact! How else does the situation of the palestinains under Israeli rule get so whitewashed that any mention of palestinian rights gets booed in america, and Israel can treat the palestinians as it wants and get away looking like a poor helpless victim?? Something aint right here..The world has made a distinction between the crimes of the holocaust and anti-Semitism and present-day Israeli brutality and ruthlessness? Its time for the Pro-Israeli-No-Matter-What ppl to get with the program.
Gretta Duisenberg should also know that because one is anti Israel doesnt mean one is NOT anti semitic. What the left pushes under the carpet is that the venom unleashed against Israel is disproportionate - a word they love to use if Israel defend itself. Even if everything they say is correct in the context of current world tyranny the Israel Palestinian question is small beer. What they cannot deny is organisations including Hamas openly say they would throw the Jews out if the Middle East if they could. This is surely a declaration of war and those who fail to condemn it are indeed racists like Gretta Duisenberg.
I always find it curious that Jewish lobby groups when trying to raise a panic about anti-semitism often tend to use headlines like 'incidents doubled' instead of 'it went from 14 incidents to 28 incidents'. And what's an incident anyway? That's another panicing weasel word. It could mean, let's say, a knife attack. 28 kife attacks would be a reign of terror, would be a growing barrage. But it's not that at all. As the article eventially makes clear, it's 28 incidents of name-calling and graffiti, with 1, by the sound of it, incident that may have involved some kind of physical confrontation. Now any anti-semitic incident is 1 too many, but big cities are full of incidents against all sorts of people and all sorts of races. Let's not have panicing headlines which lead Americans in particular to start spewing rubbish about how Europe today is like Germany in 1938.
"whenever you have something against the Jewish people in Holland, they call you an anti-Semite." I suppose that is because part of the definition of anti-semitism is making stereotypic and prejudiced statements about Jews. Top that off with a general hatred of (or "something against") Jews... and one can proudly label oneself as an anti-Semite. What happened to the days when anti-Semites just called themselves what they were?
Sir, while not in Morocco visit a library - it may help
of guilt, not their crimes against Jewish people.
If not for thatv,Gnom Dino would be howling from Germany or France. It is as true as Amen(a Hebrew word btw) in the Church .
Gretta Duisenberg always behaves like a bull in a China shop. One note however, as to her saying she wanted to collect ?6 million? signatures for a pro-Palestinian petition. If I remember correctly, the way that this remark came about was as follows: She (and others) had collected 6 thousand signatures for a pro-Palestinian petition. During a radio interview she was then asked if she was happy with the result, to which she answered: "Oh no, I wish it were 6 million instead of 6 thousand signatures." Later, a lot was made of the use of "6 million" and I see this gaffe is quoted again here, but I don?t think it means a lot because if she had collected 8 thousand signatures she would have said ?8 million?.
When I was in Holland recently the woman had also a court case against her for in a pro-Palestinian demonstration calling Palestians up to Intifada. The case was dismissed because the Dutch go by the letter (offcourse) and the meaning of "Intifada" was taken on the words dictionary meaning, not what it means on the ground: blowing yourself up in a crowd.... So idiotic the woman is plain ignorant or just evil.
Gretta is a bit naïve and looking at the ME trough her Dutch glasses!! Never heard a word from her about the mistreatment of woman and children in Gaza by there own husbands/fathers!!!
Those who want to respond to Mrs Duisenberg should perhaps take a moment to reflect on what she said before making a comment. Listen rather than just hear her words. Like it or not, she has a high profile in the Netherlands and the role of her late husband has given her a wide audience in Europe as well. As such, her comments reach a large and powerful audience. To dismiss her as an anti-semite will simply give ground to the view that any criticism of Israel is labelled anti-semitic and is seen as a further example of "The Israel Lobby" that stifles debate, restricts free speech and refuses to engage in debate due to the weakness of its arguments. My point is that debate about Israel should not be about morality or philosophical but about how to put the case for Israel most effectively. In a world of the Goldstone report, the "Boycott Israel" movement and increasing diplomatic and political isolation of Israel, the greatest need is to win friends and influence people.
...to live in their homeland." You mean the Palestinians, n'est-ce pas?
David, yes, all Arabs are Semites. And not all Jews are Semites (it is a religion, like Islam, Christianity, etc., right?). However, the expression "anti-Semite" is reserved only for Jewish persons. It was first used, probably, in 1860 by Austrian scholar Moritz Steinschneider ("antisemitische"), who used the adjective to describe prejudices against Semitic races who were characterised as inferior to Aryan peoples by Ernest Renan. Later, in 1880, the word "antisemitismus" was coined by journalist Wilhelm Marr to denote "Jew hatred," replacing the term "judenhass." Thus, the term "anti-Semitic" is defined as not being the opposite of "Semitic," it may be used only in relation to Jewish people. Go figure.
So, let them feel guilt. There is every reason for that! Not only did the dutch behave scandalous during the war, they also behaved anti-semetic afterwards. Nowehere in the world except for germany, were some many jews exterminated, over 85% of the jews did not survive the holocaust and the dutch were happy to report in a couple of jews for a few guilders.
If the support for the Palestinians takes the form of supporting violence against Jewish civilians, or if it takes the form of denying to Jews basic human rights, or if it takes the form of treating Jews as the only people in the world not entitled to live in their homeland, then yes, you're an anti-Semite.
"whenever you have something against the Jewish people in Holland, they call you an anti-Semite." Umm yes. "Having something against" the Jewish people (as opposed to "having something against" one particular Jewish person) is the textbook definition of anti-Semitism. Try this: "whenever you have something against the black people in America, they call you racist." Or, "whenever you have something against the handicapped people in the world, they call you a bigot." "They" are perfectly right. The woman is an anti-Semite, plain and simple.
It is simply a fact, that without the Holocaust (and ongoing European feelings of guilt because of it), Israel would face exactly the same treatment by the International community today, as South-Africa did during the days of the Apartheid. That is (almost) as certain as the Amen in the church....
I did see a documentary on TV about her. Jockes aside she is clinickaly insane, I can't believe she is popular with Royal House, perhaps only as a cloun.
She's only stating the obvious. There is really nothing new in what she's saying. A trick which is used too often, doesn't work anymore.
Without a doubt, anyone who, either occasionally or all the time, speaks ill of "the Jewish people", as if we were a monolithic group, is making anti-Semitic remarks. On the other hand, it is not anti-Semitic knowledgeably to criticize policies adopted or actions undertaken by Israel. Nor is it anti-Semitic knowledgeably to object to what individual Jews might say or do, so long--of course--as objections are not motivated by the ethnicity of the person being criticized. Furthermore, Duisenberg seems to suppose that she can help the Palestinians by relativizing Nazi crimes. Does she selectively identify with victims of political violence?
Whether the Protocol says so or not, all you have to do is watch the news.
But many Dutch support Gretta's cause and look up to her including the Royal Family. More news for you: the majority of the Dutch are busy living their lives AND being Pro Palestinian at the same time.
This woman clearly does not understand the difference between justified criticism and anti-semitism. she is unhappy that whenever you have a problem with the 'jewish people' you are unfairly labeled an anti semite. well to have a problem against the jewish population as a whole is the dictionary definition of anti-semitism, therefore, she is anti-semitic. Its like saying, 'i have a problem wit black people, but don't call me racsist.'
And just what did she say that isn't true?
The Duisenberg woman is luckily a very marginal loud mouth on the Dutch political scene and most think the woman is crazy, if they even know who she is. I am just back from a visit to Holland, the regular Dutch people are just busy living their lives and live and let live prevails there by far.
"people will believe that to support the palestinians you have to be anti-semitic, which of course is not true."~ronny naftaniel what a rare and refreshing comment to read, coming from the head of a pro-israel organization. but i still prefer 'een ander joods geluid'.
Naftaniel said. "People will believe that to support the Palestinians you have to be anti-Semitic, which of course is not true." That would be an understatement. Jews in Holland, I would daresay, are not Semites at all, while Arabs are. If anything, it is Israel which is "Antisemitic".
Gretta Duisenberg is married to a Palestinian radical. Indeed half the population of the Netherlands is pro Israel and against Pal terrorisme. This is because the many Maroccan immigrants misbehave and threaten The Dutch on a daily basis. No Jewish lobby could have the same effect. The Left radical Part of the government will Probably not pass the coming elections.ending Gretta's plush job in the EC
