Dana International looking to make Eurovision comeback
Singers Dana International and Vladi Blayberg are among the 10 contestants competing to represent Israel at the next Eurovision Song Contest, the Israel Broadcasting Authority announced yesterday.
The first reports that Dana International, who won Eurovision in 1998 with the song "Diva," would attempt a comeback surfaced about two weeks ago. Despite denials from her managers, her name appeared on the IBA's list; she will be singing "Ding Dong."
Vladi Blayberg, the first runner-up in the 2009 season of "A Star is Born" (Israel's version of "American Idol" ), is another famous name on the list.
The pre-Eurovision contest will take place in Rishon Letzion on March 8 and will be broadcast for the first time in five years by Channel 1, with the audience choosing the winner. For the past five years, the IBA has selected the winning artist.
The competing singers were chosen by a panel appointed by the IBA. Panel members include former Eurovision winner Izhar Cohen and singer Gilad Segev.
The Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Dusseldorf, Germany on May 14 and will also be broadcast locally by Channel 1.
