A heavy barrage of Qassam rockets was fired yesterday afternoon from the Gaza Strip at the northern Negev and the area south of Ashkelon. No injuries were reported.

The rocket launchers took advantage of the poor weather and low visibility, which made it harder for the Israel Air Force to locate them.

One rocket fell near Kibbutz Zikum, while at least two more landed near Sderot. Of these, two barely missed a gas station. The Israel Defense Forces said nearly 15 rockets were launched, but many of them apparently landed within the Palestinian Authority. A few more apparently landed in the Mediterranean, south of Ashkelon.

The Air Force shelled eight roads in the area of Beit Hanun, in the northern Gaza Strip.

Cannons lobbed shells a few times during the day into the "buffer zone" Israel declared around the remains of the evacuated settlements in northern Gaza.

A faction of Fatah sent photographs to television networks showing Qassam rockets being launched from vehicles.
