3 die in road accidents
Three people died in traffic accidents in the north of the country over the weekend, police said yesterday. A resident of the village of Mas'ada, 38, was killed at noon Friday when his motorcycle struck a private car that was making a u-turn on route 978, north of the Golan Heights. Police said investigators are also looking into whether the state of the road after the recent storm contributed to the accident.
On Friday night, two young men from Nazareth were killed and two others were lightly to moderately injured when their car crashed head-on into a truck traveling in the opposite direction. The two victims, Tarek Najam and Ihab Masharka, were released from the wreckage by firefighters, but were pronounced dead at the scene by a Magen David Adom team. The two men injured in the accident were taken to the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa and the Italian Hospital in Nazareth. Masharka's relatives told Haaretz that just before the accident, the family met to celebrate the engagement of Ihab's sister.
Yesterday an all-terrain vehicle (ATV ) rider was injured after flipping over and turning and landing in a ditch near Beit Hasheeta in the Jezreel Valley. The rider had tried to overtake a group of cyclists and crashed. He was taken by helicopter to the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.
