In Israel, assisted suicide is not painless
The killing of a 33-year-old cancer patient by her father, followed by his suicide, brought euthanasia back to the limelight and stirred a debate about the alternatives to the practice, which is banned by Israeli law.
Keren Shtalrid was supposed to begin palliative care this week. But her father, Dr. Mordechai Shtalrid, the director of the Hematology Institute at Rehovot's Kaplan Hospital, is suspected of performing euthanasia on her early Friday morning and committing suicide afterwards.
