By Avi Bar-Eli Tags: Tel AvivWinter driving is more dangerous, even in the city: There were 55 fatal traffic accidents in Tel Aviv in each of the last two winters, while Haifa had the fewest of any of the big cities: "only" 34 last winter, down from 42 the previous winter. Jerusalem saw a rise to 48 fatal traffic accidents during the winter period last year from 43 the previous winter.
The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), headed by Yair Dori, announced the figures, along with its workplans for the 2007/2008 winter period, yesterday.
These plans include establishing a national administration to deal with winter safety issues and increased cooperation with both the police and the Education Ministry in urban centers.
Educational activities will include special classes in schools and passing out information in malls and other areas, while the police will increase their presence on dangerous roads and junctions.
Joint activities will also be held with municipalities and their traffic safety staff.
The NRSA will start its winter advertising campaign next week, including television and radio ads, some 800 billboards along with newspaper ads.
The winter traffic safety campaign has a NIS 3.5 million budget.
