Three bills to grant tax breaks on mortgage interest payments passed their preliminary readings in the Knesset Wednesday, despite the coalition and cabinet's objections. The three separate bills would together cost NIS 3.1 billion a year in tax relief, and a similar bill was already passed three weeks ago. It seems Finance Minister Roni Bar-On gave in to the inevitable and did not even bother getting up to speak against the bills this time, which will now go to committee in preparation for their first reading.
