Globes business newspaper named Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer person of the year in economics on Saturday.
Fischer was given the award at the gala opening session of the Globes Israel Business Conference 2010 in Tel Aviv.
Fischer said at the ceremony that Israel's economy was able to escape the financial crisis thanks to the work done to establish the country's economic infrastructure throughout the years.
However, Fischer said that there are still urgent problems that must be addressed, in the areas of education and poverty.
Federal Reserve Board Chairman Ben S. Bernanke sent Fischer a special greeting which was played at the ceremony.
This is not the first time Fischer has been honored with such an award. Last October he was chosen as world's best bank governor for 2010 by the Euromoney magazine.
In September, Leading financial magazine Global Finance named Fischer among the top six World’s Best Central Bankers for the year 2010.
