Super-Pharm has stopped stocking Materna baby food following a commercial dispute. Last week, the retailer told all its branch managers to remove Materna baby food from the shelves, leaving two rival brands: Remedia and Gerber. The move is a serious blow to Materna, as Super-Pharm is thought to sell 30 percent of all baby food in the country.
The dispute appears to center around discounts that Super-Pharm wanted on its purchase of Materna products. However, the chain did not remove other Materna products, such as the baby formula, which is the leading brand in the market.
A Super-Pharm spokesman admitted yesterday that there was a commercial dispute between the two companies, "which should be cleared up within a matter of days." Materna reported that "the commercial dispute between the companies has finished and the products are being returned to Super-Pharm shelves."
