NII workers end strike, reach deal on pay
National Insurance Institute employees will continue to enjoy a wage increase defined by the Finance Ministry as "illegal" at least until after the elections, under an arrangement reached this week by the chairman of NII workers committee, Eli Sandak, the secretary general of the Civil Servants Union, Ariel Yaakobi, and the treasury's deputy director of wages, Yaakov Mualem. The arrangement helped end a strike and labor sanctions taken by NII workers at branches throughout the country over the past few days. The treasury had wanted to cancel a payment made to employees who do not take advantage of their right to turn up for work 10 minutes late and leave 10 minutes early. The sides will meet again in April to revisit the matter.
