The Ministerial Committee on Legislation will discuss the recommendations of the Sheshinski committee on raising taxes on oil and natural gas exploration companies on Sunday. Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz will present the proposal and the ministers may vote on whether to give the proposed bill government support.
Yisrael Beiteinu ministers are expected to object, but Knesset sources expect the bill to pass. The treasury then wants to bring the matter to the Knesset for a swift approval process. But since the Knesset will start its Passover recess on March 25, it is not clear when the proposed law will be passed.
It is possible that part of the recommendations will be presented not as legislation but as administrative regulations on the part of the Finance Ministry, and these would only require Knesset Finance Committee approval.
The committee will also discuss on Sunday a proposed law to require all high school students to undergo anti-smoking education.
