Mekorot workers threaten to dry out country
Workers' committee member says all attempts to solve the dispute through negotiations had failed.
Workers at national water utility Mekorot are threatening to cease operations, disrupting or even paralyzing the nation's water supply.
The Histadrut Labor Federation recently approved their request to declare a labor dispute. Workers' committee member Moshe Elezra said all attempts to solve the dispute through negotiations had failed.
"We are not arguing over wages, but over basic rights that the company's management is trampling," he said.
Mekorot management responded that there is no justification for declaring a labor dispute and threatening a strike, as the collective wage agreement has not been breached, and negotiations are being conducted with the committee.
