International air traffic up 6.3% in first half
It was a good half year for the Israeli aviation sector: International traffic, both passengers and flights, rose 6.3 percent in the first six months of 2007. Traffic at Ben-Gurion Airport in January-June was 4.4 million passengers, compared with 4.1 million in the same period last year, according to figures released by the Israel Airports Authority (IAA) yesterday. In the period, 34,000 takeoffs and landings were recorded, compared with 32,000 a year earlier. About 2.17 million people entered the country through Ben-Gurion, up 5.9 percent, while the number of departures grew even more to 2.23 million, up 6.7 percent. There were 9,963 transfer passengers as well. Internal flights had 216,300 passengers, up 5.2 percent, on 5,030 flights. June saw 882,100 international passengers at Ben-Gurion, up 5 percent from last year.
