Chairman of the Knesset Finance Committee Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism) said yesterday that the committee will not approve a law giving the Bank of Israel autonomy over its own employees' wages.
"We need to separate the independence of the central bank from wage supervision," he said. "Supervision is the responsibility of the Finance Ministry, and it does not matter what institution is involved," added Gafni.
Gafni met with Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz yesterday, and the two discussed the proposed new Bank of Israel Law, as well as other topics such as the 2009-2010 budget.
