Drivers who pay their parking tickets within 14 days will receive a 50% discount on the fine, if a proposed law passes in the Knesset. The bill, which was approved yesterday in its preliminary reading, would give prompt-paying drivers a break on municipal parking fines.
Sponsored by MK Moshe Kahlon (Likud), the bill apply only to parking tickets. Kahlon explained that the idea was to make life easier - and cheaper - for drivers who faced problems such as broken parking meters, a lack of parking cards or tardiness of a few minutes, but were willing to pay and to avoid the huge fines that pile up for nonpayment.
Kahlon said a similar exists in England, and that drivers there pay their fines quickly.
