Some MKs just seem to have too much time on their hands, and can't resist submitting out of this world bills whose passage is just that.
MK Amir Peretz (Labor) is behind a law that would require banquet halls to make serving carts available to the waiters, in order to save their backs from hauling heavy trays. He even coined a word for the trolley - "kalgashit," or "easy server."
Freshman legislator MK Uri Orbach (Habayit Hayehudi) submitted a bill requiring the placement of ashtrays at the entrance to all non-smoking buildings, for smokers to stub out their butts in.
MK Yaakov Katz (National Union), meanwhile, is sponsoring a bill that would result in higher car insurance premiums as well as the installation of expensive anti-theft systems and would mandate prison sentences for car thieves - all in the name of reducing vehicle thefts. MKs say the bill is unlikely to pass, in part because there is already a shortage of prison cells.
