The High Court of Justice heard an appeal Thursday to order the Education Ministry to extend the long school day to special education institutions in communities where the long school day is already in force in regular schools.
Parents of special-needs children have begun a vigil outside of Education Minister Yuli Tamir's house to protest against the ministry's decision not to fund the mainstreaming of special-needs students.

Tamir said she told parents' representatives that the High Court had approved mainstreaming as implemented by the ministry and she could not go against the ministry's professional considerations. The ministry said mainstreaming would proceed as funding became available.
