Palestinian police on Saturday freed a 20-year-old woman whose father had kept her locked in the bathroom of their house for nine years in the northern West Bank city of Qalqilyah.
According to a police statement, officers received information that a father was holding his daughter inside a bathroom. When they arrived at the house, they heard calls for help from inside the bathroom.
Police forced the father to open the door and found his daughter inside with a mattress and a blanket on the floor.
The father admitted to police that his daughter had been locked in the bathroom since she was eleven, telling them, “She has not seen the sunlight since then.
Police said the father, who was arrested, had locked her in the bathroom due to family differences, without providing further details.
