Freedom to decide is a two-edged sword because it gives Israel a double responsibility - the first for its security, and the second toward the U.S. - not to involve it in a war it did not start.
It’s been a month since President Barack Obama tried to jump-start the talks between Israel and the Palestinians. His secretary of state, John Kerry, has already earned enough frequent-flyer points for a free trip to the region - in other words, a flight for nothing. Meanwhile, the uproar over the enormous arms deal has swept the crumbs of the peace process under the rug, and once again Israel feels safe.
