What are the implications for Israel of Hagel's confirmation?

You didn't vote for the man so why do you think you can tell him now what to do, what to say or whom to appoint?

Iran has not threatened the U.S. or is capable of reaching the U.S. with a nuclear weapon. The U.S. didn't threaten Pakistan with the use of force if it developed a nuclear weapon. Why should it be any different with Iran? The U.S. foreign policy should be in its interests, not Israel's. But Mr. Dershowitz is incapable of distinguishing between the two.

I think that Alan Dershowitz is setting the correct tone in his piece. Many things have been said, in the past, about Iran by Hagel as well as others, notably in the Bush administration , which would not seem desirable from the immediate and current viewpoint. It is time for all of us to circle the wagons around Israel and this administration. Only a positively nurtured approach can lead to the optimal cooperation. Let's not forget, this is about protecting Israel now and dealing with the crazies(Iran) now ! Reason would have it that no one in the Western world, or for that matter anywhere else, will tolerate a nuclear Iran. Unfortunately it remains a question of when not how.

Given all the US military assets in the Middle East keeping shipping lanes open thus securing trade and prosperity within reason for all America's trade partners, what will additional statements of Israel's security accomplish? The charter and agency of every US cabinet member is to serve US interest. Putting Israel on a pedestal can actually add to the Israel insecurity Israelis must endure. Making a habit of beating the security assurance drum for 8 years have not stopped the Iranians from their nuclear developments or weapons ambitions. Talk is cheap and eventually amounts to crying wolf. It is mere political symbolism that Mr. Dershowitz is opining for. I think he mischaracterizes what Israel needs to be secure. It should be economic security/stability in the region. Symbols of political support will not stop the terror of rockets that rain on Israel mostly funded by Iran to its puppets in the region.

"The major Jewish and pro-Israel organizations took no public position on Hagel’s confirmation". Really? Those videos and news letter and articles do not count? Dershowitz, thinks if you repeat a lie eventually and some how magically would becomes the truth.
