Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received the State of Israel in 2009 at the height of a global economic crisis, when Israel's economy was well prepared to deal with it. On the eve of the crisis, Israel was managing the state budget with no deficit whatsoever, which allowed it, when the downturn began, to spend large amounts of money to prime the economy.
