Turkey is today the country taking the toughest line against Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime, calling for his ouster and granting asylum to the Syrian opposition and rebels. Its harsh response to having its reconnaissance plane shot down by Syria late last month underscores its resolve in taking a stand against a country that until recently, had been its ally.

Sir, with all due respect, you have got it wrong. What drives Turkish policy in Syria is the aspiration to lead the Muslim world. As the Sunnis are a majority, and view shias as a thorn in the back, Turkey wanted to replace the Alevi (offshoot of shia) regime in Syria with a Sunni (Muslim brotherhood) dominated regime. Hence, Turkey seeks to turn Syria to a Turkish protectorate. Turkey’s stand against Israel is due to the deep seated hatred against Jews. Erodgan claims that there is a Jewish conspiracy behind everything he sees wrong in Turkey and the world. Even news articles are attributed to a “Zionist conspiracy” by Erdogan. And, Turkey is not admitted to EU because, of its occupation of Cyprus, and because of its treatment to its people (Kurds, non-muslims, Alevis, etc).
